The role of a Business Manager is to lead, motivate and develop a team of Trading Underwriters to ensure they deliver a high-quality service that surpasses expectations, and creates an environment to successfully achieve the financial and operational plans set for the team.

We know that sometimes the best person for the role isn’t always looking for full time hours, so the role is available as part-time, job-share or full time, just talk to us about what you need, and we can take it from there.

“What will I do and how?”
We’ll need you to monitor, track and report financial performance of the team against annual financial service and operational targets set in our own area, ensuring accountability and responsibility from your team. You will be comfortable to lead change and create a culture of service excellence in striving and exceeding our customers perceptions.

You will be expected to work with your direct reports by ensuring they understand and apply the organisations appetite, consistent with sound business opportunity.

A sound operational mind set will be key to deliver the growth ambitions retail has for 2023 and beyond. Interpreting data in order to determine response to market conditions and customer demand will be required. You will be able to influence and collaborate with the wider underwriting team on trends and market conditions

Natural curiosity will mean you’ll be keen to find solutions to how we can improve ways of working, our processes, and policies. This could be continuous improvement opportunities like simplifying Underwriting IT / Process landscape or it could be designing and implementing new organisational frameworks or structures that ensure we deliver our Retail strategic ambitions.

You will be responsible for the evaluation/performance management, professional development, training and coaching of underwriters. As well as convey knowledge to staff to aid in making appropriate underwriting decisions.

“So what makes me a good fit for the role?”
You would have prior experience of managing and working with a team of 10/12 direct line reports. You should be comfortable with coaching/mentoring of team members and supporting their development by having a robust development plan in place.

You’ll know and understand what it means to collaborate, leading change initiatives, manage regional stakeholder and deliver in a fast- pace environment on operational and underwriting driven KPIs.

You will be comfortable to work with some level of ambiguity and uncertainty. Ability to take decisions and work with the wider management team at pace will be essential.

A leadership role, you will clearly be able to show your ability to influence & communicate effectively with all levels of stakeholders. You’ll be strong on execution and able to support and coach your line reports to ensure success.
You might have a degree, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t, we’ll help you be your best in this role by giving you all the support you need to develop your own toolkit.
