We are looking for a Development Team Leader to join our digital engineering team to lead a team of back-end developers (API and Microservices) aligned to our YBS Mobile Savings App.

About the role

As a Software Development Team Lead, you’ll will lead development engineers across 2 squads delivering API’s and Microservices that underpin our YBS Mobile Savings App.

Your team will be using a modern tech stack (Google Apigee API Gateway, Java Spring Boot microservices, Container deployments and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab).

You will -

  • Coach and support the growth of around 8 YBS Developers through regular 1-2-1s and ongoing personal development plans.

  • Drive the success of a software engineering delivery team working with the Engineering Chapter. although you will not be responsible for directly developing features.

  • Liaise with stakeholders from Product Ownership, Architecture and Testing to discuss their technical vision and support our teams in implementing the best possible solution

  • Take ownership of the production support of the team’s product ensuring SLAs are met and coordinating across the other squads.

  • Manage recruitment of new permanent team members.

  • Manage developers from partners/suppliers.

  • Be an active part of the Engineering team leads to collectively tackle challenges encountered, plan people resourcing and improve our best practices.


About you

You’ll have proven success in managing the technical performance and personal development of engineers using coaching techniques to support their growth.

You will have –

  • Experience and enthusiasm to lead, support and develop technical teams towards success in their projects and individual careers

  • A strong set of principles focused on your team and their personal performance, achievements, and progression

  • Be able to talk across technical and non-technical communities in an easy to digest way.

  • Be calm under pressure and diffuse escalations and remove blockers.

  • Be content in a technically hands-off role, you'll bring the technical authority to guide and mentor technical teams

  • Experience facilitating and guiding technical initiatives with cross-functional technical teams
