We’re at our best when we have something to drive us forward, a belief that underlines who we are and what we do. Our Purpose. We want to make people happier about money – and that idea starts with every single one of us here at Virgin Money. Here at Virgin Money, we take a huge amount of pride in what we do, working seamlessly across all areas to achieve the same goals for the business.

This is an exciting time as we stand up our Risk Analytics Centre of Excellence (RACE). Our ambition is to drive forward enhanced modelling capability by providing:

  • Consistency: Modelling choices conducted consistently across models removing incoherence between outputs.
  • Best practice sharing: Advanced modelling approaches rapidly shared.
  • Delivery speed: Ability to load balance across a large, centralised team of similar skill set, building on pre-existing data sets and codes and rapidly engage with system implementation.
  • Efficiency: Consolidated model landscape with re-use of engineered and cleaned data and validated code snippets

You’ll be responsible for leading model developments and quantitative and qualitative analysis. The remit is wide and covers all types of models within the IFRS 9 Provisioning landscape. This includes exposure to a range of business areas and covers retail and business banking products and customers. The team’s focus is on the development, validation, management and monitoring of our models and providing first class support to our stakeholders across Risk and Finance.

Day to day you’ll be responsible for:
  • Providing input into the scoping, design, development, validation and implementation of credit risk models, in line with Bank standards and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Independently leading statistical analysis to ensure the Retail and Business loan loss provision models currently in operation remain robust and fit for purpose
  • Leading key discussions and presenting analytical findings and solutions to a range of stakeholders both within and external to the modelling area
  • Providing first-class model documentation and recommendation papers to governance committees
  • Supporting the development of junior analysts
There are a few essentials you need to bring:
  • Familiarity of a variety of modelling techniques with experience of applying them, ideally in a banking environment.
  • Technical experience of model development projects within banking with an understanding of model usage.
  • Practical experience of interpreting complex data utilising strong analytical skills.
  • Expertise in the use of statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, Python or R) as well as MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, listening and writing skills with an ability to listen, understand and respond professionally.
  • Experience of determining priorities and participation of the planning process.
  • A team building mindset.
It’s a bonus if you have …. but not essential:
  • Knowledge of economical processes, ideally with some experience of economic time series analysis
  • Experience in building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders
  • Functional Risk and Regulatory knowledge ideally within IFRS 9 and/or IRB and Stress Testing
  • A good degree in a numerate discipline subject (e.g. statistics, maths, engineering, econometrics).

We really need you to have the skills and experience listed in the essentials section above, but the rest is just our wish list. We’d love to hear from you and are on the lookout for like-minded individuals and innovators like you to help push us forward. We’re also transforming how we work to give our colleagues more choice, control and flexibility to live and work how they choose with A Life More Virgin.
