Department

The Social Policy subject group in the School for Business and Society at the University of York wishes to recruit an outstanding candidate to a Lectureship in Social and Public Policy. You will bring academic and/or practice expertise around policy analysis, particularly as applied to the analysis of social policy, that will complement existing strengths at York. Ideally you will also have subject knowledge in one of the following areas: policy evaluation, governance and leadership, family policy, social research methods, poverty and social exclusion. We would welcome applicants with subject knowledge of social divisions and differences in respect to social welfare, especially within the areas of race/ethnicity and/or disability.

Role

You will be responsible for the design, development and management of innovative teaching materials and modules, with a primary focus on policy analysis, particularly as applied to the analysis of social policy. You will undertake academic supervision of students and act as a research supervisor within your own specialist subject area. You will set and mark student assessment tasks and provide constructive feedback to students. You will plan and deliver teaching, and actively contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of taught programmes, including both on-campus programmes and online distance learning programmes. You will develop and promote research activities and manage and guide the work of staff and research students in your own specialist area. You will be comfortable taking lead responsibility for research tasks as well as working with research partners. As well as publishing in peer-reviewed journals, you will have experience in disseminating research findings to different stakeholder groups at an international level. You will contribute to the administration and management of the subject group and the wider school.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

With a PhD in Social and/or Public Policy or an associated subject or equivalent experience, and an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification (or willingness to complete one), you will have experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will be a team player who works collaboratively, flexibly and reliably, and will work alongside an experienced and supportive team of colleagues. You will have a commitment to the department/university outside of your chosen field and a willingness to update your knowledge and skills.

The post is available from 1st June 2023.
