The role

We are seeking to appoint a talented public health or applied health researcher with experience in the quantitative evaluation of interventions, and ideally with experience of qualitative research methods as well. The successful applicant will be involved in a multi-disciplinary team from the Universities of Bristol, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Leeds Beckett University evaluating the impact of the new ‘unhealthy commodities’ Advertisement & Sponsorship Policy, implemented by Bristol City Council in early 2022, on public health. She or he will be involved in the development of protocols, collection and analysis of quantitative data, and will contribute to interviews and focus groups. The applicant will be based within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West) in Bristol.

What will you be doing?

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the research team and from ARC West, local councils and other stakeholders to undertake high quality evaluation science research.
  • Undertake data collection and management, in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, procedures and ethical guidelines, and as advised.
  • Preparation of datasets for use in observational research, including preparation of necessary documentation such as data dictionaries.
  • Undertake data analysis using appropriate statistical software
  • Write-up statistical analysis plans, research reports, minutes of meetings and drafts of publications as required
  • Present data and findings to internal and external stakeholders, at scientific conferences, or at public events.

You should apply if

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, or other relevant discipline, with a track record of publications commensurate with experience.

The candidate will need to evidence strong quantitative statistical skills with previous experience in the evaluation of interventions and have knowledge of qualitative research methods.

Contract type: Open ended with fixed funding until 31/07/2025

Work pattern: Full time/ 1FTE (part time considered)

Grade: J / 2 (b)

Salary: £40,745- £ 45,737 per annum (pro rata if part time)

School/Unit: Bristol Medical School

Shift pattern: 35h per week (part time considered)
