Aberdeen 2040 strategy commits us to equipping our graduates for global employment. A major challenge to ensuring students’ career success is the limited engagement in careers service offerings early enough during their studies to positively impact on graduate outcomes. Data shows only 35% of students set up their CareerConnect profile, and emails receive less than 50% open rates. Social media engagement is relatively low and limited to already engaged students.

The implementation of career registration is now complete, with the first data collected in January 2023 for PGT students. From September 2023, completion of career registration will be compulsory for all taught undergraduate and postgraduate students. Career registration data provides the University with the opportunity to redesign our approach to engagement, enabling content to be targeted to the responses students provide, allowing us to share information on the basis of career interests and support requirements. A PowerBI dashboard will provide student career readiness insights, for example, by year of study, subject or school.

A new marketing and communications approach is required to maximise the impact of this new dataset on student careers and employability engagement. The aim of this project is to develop a targeted marketing and communications plan and bank of marketing assets. The intern will be expected to develop a good understanding of career registration data, analyse existing engagement data and build understanding of the needs of the student body to inform development of strategies to maximise future engagement. The intern will liaise with other University departments, including the Experience, Engagement and Wellbeing team and the Communications and Brand teams, to create original and engaging content and strategies in line with University communication and brand policies. The project will develop a fully targeted careers and employability communications plan, with the assets required, to implement throughout academic year 2023-2024.

As the successful candidate you will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills as well as creativity. You should have a good awareness of marketing approaches and experience of designing and delivering marketing and communications. You will have excellent organisational and IT skills, with experience of using Microsoft Office applications and graphic design software. You will be able to prioritise your workload and work both individually and as part of a team.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 2, £21, 134 per annum.

Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and probation period
