About us

This key role is based at the UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI). CABI is an internationally-recognised imaging facility that houses a wide range of imaging equipment.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic collaboration that aims to better understand the growth of tumours in spinal vertebrae in breast cancer. Our programme, OnceEng, focusses on physical principles (e.g. mechanical stress, fluid dynamics) to predict tumour growth and fracture risk, using medical imaging and mathematical modelling. Our programme, OnceEng, focusses on physical principles (e.g. mechanical stress, fluid dynamics) to predict tumour growth and fracture risk, using medical imaging and mathematical modelling. This key role is based at the UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI). CABI is an internationally-recognised imaging facility that houses a wide range of imaging equipment.

About you

We are looking for someone with experience with biomedical imaging (e.g. MRI, microscopy) and image processing. As this is a postdoctoral role, you will need to hold a PhD in a related discipline (or be soon to complete a PhD). You will also need to have good experience with programming, ideally in Python, Matlabor C++, and be able to apply this to image analysis. You must also have a proven ability to design, implement, document and analyse experiments, and have a publication track record commensurate with your career stage. The post-holder will be responsible for undertaking biophysical experiments and acquiring image data from in vivo and/or in vitro models of cancer. This will enable a better understanding of tumour biophysics and provide data for mathematical modelling of tumour growth, using sophisticated tumour simulation tools developed within Profs Simon Walker-Samuel and Rebecca Shipley’s groups. Development of modelling tools can form part of the role for a suitably qualified candidate, but this is not essential. We are principally looking for a talented and motivated researcher to work on this project, and the focus of the work can be adapted to the background of the successful candidate, with training provided to bridge knowledge gaps. Experience in cancer imaging is advantageous, although training will be provided. Likewise, the post will require development of software tools for image analysis, post-processing and/or tumour biophysics, and so experience with Matlab and/or Python is essential.

What we offer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team working across the Division of Medicine. As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits some of which are below: • 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days) • Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE) • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan • Immigration loan • Relocation scheme for certain posts • On-Site nursery • On-site gym • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service • Discounted medical insurance Visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/reward-and-benefits to find out more.
