About us

The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.

About the role

This pre-doctoral position is designed to build capacity in Global child health services research and to provide a talented and committed individual with research training and the opportunity to develop a competitive PhD application of their own on an area of interest within the broad program of work of the Neotree project. The post holder will be supported by NIHR Global Health Professor Dr Heys and the Neotree team. In this role you will also undertake the following duties; • Undertake any necessary training to support their development in qualitative and quantitative research. • Undertake a piece of secondary analysis on Neotree data (quantitative or qualitative) that could provide preliminary or informative data for a PhD application • Develop skills for grant and research proposal writing and contribute to funding applications. • Work with the Neotree team based at UCL and overseas to support with research management and communication. • Support the research team with teaching and training at UCL. The salary offered on this post is £34,502 - £36,348 per annum and it is funded for 1 year in the first instance.

About you

The post holder should have a bachelor’s and master’s degree or equivalent skills in a relevant domain, such as population health sciences, epidemiology, health informatics etc. A background in health or health services research and prior experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment is desirable.
