About us

The faculty of MAPS comprises approximately 3948 undergraduate (UG) students, 993 postgraduate taught (PGT) students and 896 postgraduate research (PGR) students.


The Faculty Education team is based in the Faculty Office and provides a wide range of administrative support to facilitate the delivery of teaching and ensure an excellent student experience. The team works collaboratively across the faculty’s ten constituent departments/institutes, and team members are expected to share responsibilities, learn from, and cover for each other as far as is feasible.

About the role

The DESE is responsible for ensuring that appropriate action is taken in relation to students and to education matters in line with UCL policy, and that appropriate contributions are made to strategy and policy development. Working closely with staff within the Faculty and its constituent departments, the DESE will: provide support and leadership for the Faculty’s education staff (both academic and professional services) to develop best practice; ensure compliance and the operation of quality assurance measures in line with UCL policy; and improve Faculty performance in education and student experience. The DESE will work collaboratively with a range of senior colleagues within the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs) and Student Registry Services.

About you

The post holder will have significant experience of leadership within HE, including management of staff and resources as well as building teams. They will have experience of finding solutions to a range of problems as well as substantial experience of student support within an education setting including a wide range of academic and pastoral support activities. The role holder will also be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with and through others.
