Are you a compassionate, motivated, problem-solving nurse, who loves to make a difference to patient care?

If this is the case, the Haematology Department at UCLH is the best place for you to develop your skills and knowledge. This excellent opportunity is open for both experienced and newly qualified band 5 nurses who wish to develop their career in the amazing and challenging world of Haematology.

The Haematology Department at UCLH is one of the largest haematology unit in Europe and creates many opportunities for on-going development and promotion that occur within the nursing services.

The Haematology Department is a nurse-led service at the cutting edge of cancer care. Nurses run the central venous access team, the chemotherapy team, education team and more. This support infrastructure provides our nurses with the time to provide high quality care for our patients. Our ward nursing ratios are 1 nurse to 4 patients, with the support of a nurse in charge.

Cancer Services at UCLH are based in state-of-the-art facilities. Inpatients are primarily located in the purpose-built, brand-new Grafton Way Building and the modern UCH Tower. Haematology Day-care services are located at the MacMillan Cancer Centre that opened in 2014. With Grafton Way building being next door to the Cancer Centre and UCL Cancer Institute – it has created a leading cancer campus.

Haematology is a great specialty to nurse in, providing acute and chronic care, palliative care and nurse led care. The inpatient haematology unit provides a positive working culture, with safe staffing levels that enables you to do your job well, supporting your professional & academic development. You will be responsible to provide and organize high quality care for your own group of patients, including the administration of medications, supportive therapies, and systemic anti-cancer therapies, working together with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in a compassionate and effective manner to facilitate admissions and discharges according to the UCLH patient flow targets. You will be responsible to comply with our policies and procedures to preserve safety, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality, minimizing the risk of infection by following the infection prevention and control advice.

Our organisation is driven by our strategic and annual objectives and the organisational values. We look for people who are strongly aligned with them.

This vacancy would suit a newly qualified Nurse who is looking for a Team that can provide a high level of mentoring and support on an on-going basis or an experienced Band 5 who wish to develop their career in the amazing and challenging world of Haematology.

The haematology department works very closely with the Haematology Cancer Care at UCLH charity, which organises family orientated social events and fund raisers, including the London 10k, the Bridgathon, the London Marathon and many others.

You will be a valuable member of the team who will motivate colleagues to succeed and develop a culture of improvement in the unit.
