If you have recently completed your education, graduated, or are looking to pursue a career in data, we have an exciting entry level opportunity to join our Business Intelligence team as a Junior BI Analyst.

The Tote Business Intelligence team was established in 2021 and has made significant progress rolling out a BI strategy that puts data at the heart of decision making. In our first year as a team, we have rolled a suite of Power BI dashboards that are viewed more than 5,000 times a month as well as number of predictive analytics models and we are now looking to expand our team as we move into the next phase of our BI strategy.

About the role:

As Junior BI Analyst you will work with the BI Analyst and Head of BI to provide day to day analysis support to commercial and operational teams. The analysis you produce will be used by the business teams to support decision making, driving a step change in the way that we analyse and assess performance. You will be expected to proactively work with the rest of the BI team and key stakeholders across the business and will have the opportunity to specialise as you develop your skills and experience and become a subject matter expert in SQL, Power BI, and DAX.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Engage with business stakeholders and the wider BI team to identify and define analysis requirements
  • Create hypotheses, identify relevant data points, and analyse data and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Build out analysis results and present clear and actionable insights to a variety of stakeholders with clear recommendations
  • Support with the coaching and training of business stakeholders so that they become more data literate and self sufficient

We are proud stewards of the Tote, Great Britain’s pool betting operator since 1928. Backed by people from across British horse racing, UK Tote Group is led by a dedicated group of racehorse owners and breeders and racing fans who are passionate about revitalising the Tote.

We are a team of over 170 people with our HQ based in Wigan, Greater Manchester (WN3 5AZ). The role will be 37.5 hours per week with core business hours 9am till 5pm however, there is a requirement to be flexible with working patterns around key racing festivals. We offer a flexible hybrid working and a full induction, on the job training and development plan will be put in place for anyone who joins the team.

What you’ll need:

We are looking for candidates with a passion for data and are looking to start a career in the data industry. The other key skills and experience we are looking for candidates to be able to demonstrate include:

  • Ability to demonstrate high levels of numerical analytical thinking skills
  • Proven experience working with Microsoft Excel at an advanced level
  • Experience working with BI tools and writing SQL would be advantageous but not essential
  • Proven experience working with customers or stakeholders and building positive working relationships
  • Confident with problem solving under pressure with the ability to prioritise
  • An interest or experience in horse racing and sports betting is not essential but would be advantageous
