We are seeking to appoint a new Chair of Emergency Medicine working jointly across Swansea University Medical School and Swansea Bay University Health Board. You will have an established and evidenced track record of research, teaching, leadership, and management within emergency medicine.
You will work within the Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research that was formed in 2019 with a view to both sustaining and promoting the growth of academic emergency medicine in Wales and beyond. The Centre was formed as part of a strong collaboration between Swansea Bay University Health Board, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, and Swansea University.
You will be expected to maintain an international profile in research, supervision, and scholarly activity commensurate with a professorial role.
Your research interests are expected to align with those of the Medical School -https://www.swansea.ac.uk/medicine/research/.
As you will be working jointly across Swansea University Medical School and Swansea Bay University Health Board, for full transparency of the role there are two separate job descriptions, providing details of the expectations with Swansea Bay University Health Board and Swansea University Medical School.
The Medical School is a progressive, dynamic, and aspirational part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science located on the Singleton Campus of Swansea University and provides an interdisciplinary approach, educating and training the next generation of doctors, life scientists, and health professionals.
It collaborates with the NHS, business and the third sector in a spirit of open innovation and has established itself as a world-class place to learn, research and innovate.
The Medical School ranks top 5 for research quality (REF2021) and is consistently top 5 in various subject-specific teaching league tables. Swansea University has been awarded the UK Government’s Teaching Excellence and Student Outcome Framework (TEF) Gold award to recognise its excellent teaching standards.
The Medical School became the first department within the University to achieve an Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award in 2015, and this was re-awarded in 2019 in recognition of its commitment to equality. The University also holds the Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award. Swansea is a great place to live and work, the gateway to the Gower with its fantastic beaches and close to the Brecon Beacons.
