Job Introduction

The starting salary for this role is £29,844 per annum for working 36 hours per week.

If you’re enthusiastic about supporting young people to achieve their very best and looking for an opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic and innovative team, we want to hear from you!

Our Targeted Youth Support (TYS) service are inviting creative individuals who enjoy working with adolescents and their families to join the team and help make a difference to our young people's lives.

Surrey’s TYS service works with young people at risk of offending, family breakdown, homelessness, and sexual and criminal exploitation. We provide help at the point that problems emerge, preventing the need for more specialist services further down the line. We also hold the Youth Offending function for the County, supervising young people in the Youth Justice System in Surrey

We believe that the welfare of children and their families is paramount. We are enthusiastic and supportive; committed to the provision of quality services for young people and their carers. We are looking for people who share these qualities to join us and continue the good work already being done.

As a Targeted Youth Support Practitioner, you’ll be managing a caseload of young people who need targeted support. You will work with the team to support young people to achieve their potential and reduce the likelihood of them coming to harm using motivational interviewing and other evidence-based approaches. The role includes both individual and group work, and co-delivering parenting groups.

As a member of our team, you will be working alongside social workers, other partner agencies, and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community. You will be well supported and training will be provided to ensure competence and professional development so that you are confident in your role. We will also ensure you receive a full induction and monthly supervision.

Each team in the TYS Service has a Team Manager overseeing a small team of six staff. This allows managers and team members to really get to know the young people we work with and support each other's work. TYS teams are usually based in our quadrant offices and cover a dedicated part of the county.

Here are the qualities, skills and experiences we are looking for in our Targeted Youth Support Practitioners:

  • The ability to engage with young people and their families/carers
  • Experience of working with adolescents and the ability to demonstrate how your work has resulted in positive outcomes
  • Experience in supporting colleagues in managing risk and effecting positive change
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.

For more information please find the full job description below and refer to this before submitting your application. We also invite you to read our Life at Surrey handbook to see insights of the culture at Surrey and how as a valued employee, you can help shape our Council.
