Production Operative - Overtime Available

Spartan UK is a leading quarto steel plate re-roller, supplying UK and Northern Europe with a wide range of steel plates suitable for application in numerous industrial sectors, such as construction, bridges, wind turbines etc. Employing 121 people in the £200 ml turnover business we achieved record breaking results last year and due to our continued success, we are looking to recruit Production Operatives to work within our operations department, and ideally with a manufacturing/heavy engineering background.

Job Overview

Reporting to Operational Management, as a Production Operative you will be part of the plant operations team, in the re-rolling of steel plate.

Key requirements

· Be proficient in the operation of company machinery

· Meet the required targets set by Operational Management

· Support the implementation of continuous improvement and lean working

· Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental business requirements. They may be required to participate in risk assessments in accordance with the needs of the business and the well-being of other employees.

· Willing to develop skills to boost operational performance

· Have good communication skills

· Have a “Can Do” attitude

· Be able to work unsupervised after training period

· Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office

· Be Self-Motivated

· Be happy to work fixed overtime shifts in line with business requirements

Desirable but not essential

Candidates with the following experience would be at an advantage, however, these skills are not essential as full training will be given.

· Have worked in a Heavy Engineering Environment

· Operated machinery

· Have a valid Forklift Truck Licence

· Have previously used overhead cranes

The following criteria applies to this position

• 3 shift system, 40 hours per week (0600 - 1400, 1400 - 2200, 2200 - 0600 hours rotating) for which a shift premium of 6.5% is applicable.

The above positions are offered initially on a 6-month Fixed Term Contract. Opportunities for permanent positions are available should the candidate demonstrate they meet the operational criteria required
