Our four year Engineering Apprenticeship programme is the perfect foundation block for anyone looking to start a career in Engineering.

The apprenticeship balances college learning with work placements at our Engineering depots for an excellent blended approach to learning.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship will result in a Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician qualification and knowledge of different types of trains, faults and Southeastern depots, as well as opportunities to progress into other Engineering roles.

We are seeking applications from those who are passionate about engineering.

No previous rail experience is required!

We would encourage you to demonstrate the below in your application;

• 4 x GCSE's of Grade C/ 4 or above, including English, Maths, and Science.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• To be proactive and have the ability to problem solve.
• Great team working ability.
• Should be computer literate with a basic knowledge of information technology.

A STREET artist who trained to be a clown is now an apprentice engineer.

Juliana Teichert was a hospital clown doctor helping sick children in her native Germany before moving to the UK.

After spells honing her entertaining skills with a street art group and working in care, Juliana was encouraged to try a career in the railway by friend Dan Carter, a maintenance engineer at Slade Green.

Since starting with Southeastern in September, Juliana splits her time between Gillingham depot and college in Strood, working towards an HNC in Engineering.

Juliana said: “Dan gave me a really good idea of what the job is about. I was so pleased when I was taken on.

“I had started a Bachelor of Engineering Open University degree. But I wasn’t getting hands-on experience. Now, every day in the depot, I’m learning new things.

“There is so much process! Jack Bates, Service Engineer, is really looking after me in depot, giving me tasks on maintenance and testing, making sure I understand what is happening. Everyone is really helpful, explaining what they are doing.

“I can change a brake pad now – even if it is a bit slow.”

Juliana will continue to delight audiences with stilt walking, juggling, mime and comedy in the summer, using her newfound skills to improve the act.

She said: “Making props to use in the show will be a lot easier with the mechanical, wiring and electronics experience I’m getting.

“With four days on, four days off, the engineering job gives me loads of flexibility to carry on performing.”
