Lightworks now form the Centre of Excellence for Visualization inside the Siemens Digital Industries Software division. With specialisms in 3D graphics, ray tracing, web-based technologies, virtual reality, games engines and UI, the Lightworks team supports advanced visualisation usage across the world-leading Siemens product design software range and directly with end users.

What we’re looking for

As someone who’s opted for a placement within their degree course, you will be looking to start your career as a Software Engineer within technical web development. Your degree must contain a high level of technical content preferably within engineering or computer science. This role is paid, available for one year, and offers a fantastic opportunity to work on technology for 3D CAD software projects in an exciting and varied enterprise environment for industry leading customers.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Software Development Manager you will be working in a small, Agile, development team focussing on providing support technologies for a range of web-based CAD applications. The team utilise a variety of web-based technologies and work closely with a team of designers.

It is expected that the candidate will acquire a broad understanding of our products, their domains, and their application; have the confidence to express ideas as part of a creative software team; have a genuine interest in technological trends; have the ability to meet deadlines; to think creatively about solutions to complex technical problems; and be constantly striving to enhance the team’s results and the quality of the software.

What you’ll bring

• Experience using Javascript
• An inquisitive and methodical approach with good attention to detail
• Strong analysis, design and problem-solving ability
• Enthusiasm for continuous learning
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• An interest working with current web technologies
• Knowledge of software engineering principles
• A passion for creating high-quality software

A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:

• Agile best practices
• 3D CAD systems
• Object orientated programming techniques
• Experience working with source control (Git)
• Experience in developing front-end applications using HTML, CSS, Javascript.
• Experience using React
