The Role

Where you fit in

The Instrument Technician is a key member of the Maintenance Team with influence across a wide range of work execution on site. The position will require the ability to work with Safe Systems of Work, including P-Vision and Maintenance Management System SAP.

What’s the role?

The scope of this role is to perform planned and corrective instrument maintenance and project activities as part of the site maintenance team. To ensure that the health and safety of personnel, the environment, and the integrity/reliability of the plant, equipment and systems are preserved, always in accordance with Statutory Law & Company Policy.

Key responsibilities include:

HSSE

  • Visibly demonstrate Safety Leadership and support site leadership in delivering HSSE essentials
  • Actively contribute to the site HSSE plan through engagement and completion of assurance activities
  • Working in compliance with the Shell Work Instructions and Instrument Specific Job Plans
  • Responsible for the effective individual competency management ensuring all items are up to date
  • Participate in the Site Duty Rota (1 week in 5) responding to emergency situations in accordance with the Site Emergency Procedures and any out of hours maintenance requirements

Stakeholder Management

  • Strong communication and coordination with Production Operations team to ensure safe handover and delivery of Instrument Maintenance Tasks

Technical Assurance

  • As part of the Instrument Maintenance Department responsible for the execution phase of preventative and corrective maintenance activities on all aspects instrumentation including Fire and Gas Systems, ESD/EDP, Safeguarding Logic, Measurement and Control System
  • Responsible for the safe execution of work using the P-Vision permit system whilst adhering to Fife NGL’s safety and maintenance procedures
  • Responsible for recording technical history on completion of tasks
  • Assist in reviewing and updating department procedures
  • Assist in pre-commissioning/ commissioning of new plant and equipment
  • Good understanding of instrument maintenance processes and support designated site process focal point for PME in the AMS Process
  • Understanding of COMAH site regulations and their associated interaction with site instrumentation, with a specific focus on achieving ASST status

What we need from you

  • Relevant experience within the Petrochemical industry with a suitable technical HNC/D & Mechanical NVQ lvl3 or equivalent. As the person who confirms quality assurance, this person is expected to be highly respected and competent in the discipline
  • Experience in participating in projects such as Turnarounds or other small Maintenance activities will be an advantage
  • Must be self-motivated, have good communication skills, a high degree of self-reliance with appropriate technical skills to ensure prompt responses are made based on mature technical judgement
  • Flexibility to adapt to constant change is essential to enable the incumbent to work in a highly motivated and empowered environment
  • Continuous Improvement mind-set with a desire to improve the process and make it more efficient, as well as an ability to problem solve and take ideas through to completion
  • Flexibility on work hours will be necessary owing to operational requirements especially during Turnarounds
  • Flexibility to adapt to change is essential to enable the incumbent to work in a highly motivated and empowered environment
  • Proactively seek feedback and coaching from others, whilst offering feedback and support coaching to the team
  • Excellent engagement and collaboration skills
  • Must be able to function within small collaborative team and within the wider maintenance/operations departments
