Overview:

Would you like to make a difference and contribute to the work of the Care Inspectorate? If so, these are roles which may interest you. Scottish Minsters are looking to make two new appointments to the Board of the Care Inspectorate.

Every person in Scotland has the right to high-quality, safe and compassionate social care services that make a real and positive difference to their lives. The Care Inspectorate is here to help make sure that happens. We promote rights, independence and choice, alongside safety and protection, for people experiencing care. We are a scrutiny body that supports and drives improvement. We provide public assurance and where we find care is not good enough, we will act.

With the Scottish Parliament currently considering the National Care Service Bill, this is an exciting time to become involved in helping to shape the future of social care and support services in Scotland.
Skills/Experience Required:
Ministers are looking for those who can demonstrate at least one of the following:
  • Experience of the care and support system from a disabled person’s perspective;
  • Recent experience of achieving major organisational impact through digital transformation within a complex environment

Those appointed will also need to demonstrate:
  • Ability to examine and review complex issues and reach decisions;
  • Ability to demonstrate you can work effectively in a team or group environment to deliver results; and
  • Seeing the bigger picture
For more specific detail of the particular requirements of the roles, please see the person specification in the application pack. More detailed information about the Care Inspectorate is also in the pack.

We value very highly the benefits of having different experience and points of view on our Boards and we are keen that people from all walks of life apply for public appointments. Scottish Ministers particularly welcome applications from women, disabled people, LGBTI+ people, people from ethnic minority communities and people aged under 50.

Applicants for public appointments must be legally entitled to work in the UK. Please see the Information for Applicants pack for further information.

Remuneration:
Members receive £187.08 per day. Travel and subsistence allowances are also payable, however, the appointments are not pensionable.

Time commitment:
The time commitment is up to two days per month.

Appointment details:
The appointment will be for up to 4 years at the end of which Scottish Ministers may consider reappointing you for a further term. A non-executive member’s total period of appointment will not exceed eight years.

Location:
There are four formal Board Meetings per year, usually held at our offices in Dundee. Most meetings are currently held online and we expect there to be a blend of virtual and in-person meetings in the future.

Interviews:
Interviews will be held on 18 & 21 April. Full details on how these will be conducted are in the information pack.

Further information: If you would like to find out more about the role, you are welcome to contact Jackie Irvine, Chief Executive, either by email at jackie.irvine@careinspectorate.gov.scot or on 07741 078713.
