Games Technician Wanted

(30-40hours per week) No gaming experience required as full training will be given!

Are you the type of person who will offer to put IKEA flat pack furniture up and enjoy doing it? A dab hand with a tool set? If so, this could be the job for you….

Roxy Lanes Cardiff, The Friary has recently taken Cardiff by storm with huge success and we need a GAMES GURU to assist us with the smooth day to day running of all the games we offer, there’s a fair few…. Ten Pin bowling, Duckpin bowling, Ice-Free Curling, Shuffleboard, Batting Cage, Karaoke, Beer Pong, American Pool.

The role of games guru is highly important - you will be the gaming pro, the been there, done that, got the t-shirt, know it all gaming LEGEND. Gaming is our USP, it’s what we’re about, it’s our passion, and we need our gaming to be ON POINT.

Here is what a working day for the successful applicant could look like….

Arrive with coffees (1 for you, 1 for your GM - got to keep him sweet) and don’t forget to clock in)

TENPIN

Check the strings on each lane - are they too loose/tight ? Do they sit in the cups right ?

Check the sensors - do they all have power ?

Check the pit lights - are they all on ?

Hoover the carpet behind the pins

PLAY GAMES TO TEST (THE FUN BIT)

Sweep gutters

Clean lanes with machine

Clean ball returns - hoover with handheld and wipe down, clean balls

DUCKPIN
Check strings
Check sensors
Check pit lights
PLAY TO TEST (MORE FUN)
Sweep gutters
Mop lanes
Clean ball return
Clean balls

POOL TABLES
Dust the lamps
Brush all pool tables
Wipe the sides
BATTING CAGE
Check the machine is working
Check there are enough balls
Check the bat’s - are they looking good ?
Check the wicket - does it need replacing ?
Check the lights above for balls stuck in cover
PLAY TO TEST (WE SHOULD STOP WITH THE FUN ALREADY, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE WORK!)

SHUFFLEBOARD
Sweep sand off the board
Spray with lacquer
Sprinkle sand back on
Hoover sand from sides
CURLING
Sweep lanes
Mop lanes
Check stones - are they broken/do they need replacing ?

KARAOKE
Turn on equipment
Check the mics work
Check the sound quality
Check the songs are synced
TEST - put on a show (OH GO ON, HAVE A BIT MORE FUN)

BEERPONG
Wipe down tables with a damp cloth
Are there enough cups on each table ? (NO TESTING - SORRY NO DRINKING WHILST WORKING!)

ARCADES
Dust and wipe the basketball machines
Check the basketballs - are there enough balls (4 per machine) ? Are they pumped up enough ?
Wipe down air hockey
Check the pucks
Dust and wipe down DTC
Check the balls - are there enough ?
TEST THEM ALL

BREAK TIME
You’ll need an hours rest with all that fun, so go recharge!

DURING SHIFT
Be on hand for peak times to assist with any faults. Doing all the above usually means faults are kept minimum. You’ll also be working your way around gaming tables offering different ways to play games or acknowledging anyone struggling on bowling, maybe asking them if they want the bumpers up midgame? Show anyone on pool tables how to play 9 ball and so on….

AFTER SHIFT
Clock off
Finish - half price pint in hand
Admire your handiwork and look forward to your next games guru shift

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £25,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
