Who we are:

Founded in 2005, River Kids is a growing charity who help disadvantaged local children and their respective families in the West Lothian region and the wider community.

What we do:

Act as a facilitator between people who need support and the organisations that exist to support them – we ‘bridge the gap’.

  • Through our referral system, we supply pre-loved and new clothing, shoes and toys to families who are struggling financially or through no-fault circumstances have little possessions.
  • Provide volunteering & employment opportunities to young adults who are experiencing barriers to employment.
  • Provide financial grants to children/families so they can enjoy extra-curricular activities.
  • Manage the West Lothian Toy Appeal which delivers, annually, gifts to over 3,000 children on their birthdays and at Christmas.

What you will do:

Are you passionate about helping to give local children and young people a better start in life? Would you like to be at the heart of our charity, running our warehouse in Broxburn and help lead and coordinate many of our activities?

You will have overall responsibility for overseeing all day-to-day warehouse operations, supervising the Warehouse Assistant(s) along with our small team of daily volunteers. Along with this, you will oversee the day-to-day office operations, supervising the Charity and Admin Assistants.

As the second-most senior member of the team there will be an expectation to cover for the Charity Manager when they are absent due to holidays etc. Where needed, and to support the Charity Manager in their own day-to-day role of growing the charity you may be required to undertake additional duties as directed from time to time.

Reporting to the Charity Manager your main duties include:

  • Supervision, workload allocation and management of employees.
  • Oversight and ultimate responsibility for HR functions including induction, development of and appraisal of staff.
  • Overseeing the processing and distribution of all donations received into the warehouse.
  • Overseeing all referrals received through our referral scheme and the West Lothian Toy Appeal (WLTA).
  • Organising the daily workplans and providing support to our volunteers.
  • Providing a safe working environment adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures ensuring they are always understood and practiced by all team members.
  • Overseeing the disposal of unwanted goods, ensuring it is done as “green” as possible using recycling facilities where available.
  • Building on and managing key relationship with external stakeholders.
  • Overseeing and supporting all aspects of our monthly Toy Sales.
  • Implementing, and overseeing a new stock management system.
  • Attending and supporting social and fundraising events.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven track record of supervising/managing a successful team.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • Great attention to detail and passionate about customer service.
  • A curiosity and willingness to implement process improvements.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work on your own initiative and to strict deadlines.
  • Good awareness of health and safety protocols.
  • This is a physically demanding position that may involve periods of strenuous activity.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Current driving licence with access to a car is preferred.
  • Experience of working within a warehouse environment and knowledge of warehouse inventory management systems is desirable.

What we offer:

  • 25 days annual leave* + public holidays.
  • Salary negotiable dependent on experience.
  • Company pension scheme via NEST.
  • Full time work - 35 hours per week (This post requires the holder to work a flexible work pattern which may include unsocial hours)

*We do not allow holidays to be taken between 1 December and 23 December due to the demand on the charity, however, the office closes for a 2-week period over Christmas and New Year.

Please note employment is conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory PVG check and employment references.
