About the job

Job summary

This is an important time to join Ofsted. We know that the system continues to face extraordinary pressures. These pressures further emphasise our role as a force for improvement and the importance of understanding the quality of education that children are experiencing.

Our education inspection framework has curriculum and the quality of education at its heart. If you join us as one of His Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI), you will use this framework and your expertise to shine a light on good practice and constructively challenge where schools need to improve. You will receive excellent training, so that your existing expertise is used to maximum impact. As you develop as an HMI, you may also have the opportunity to use your subject expertise through research and specialist work.

We are looking for professionals from across primary (including early years) and secondary schools. Leadership experience will be essential; you might be a headteacher, deputy head or head of a secondary school department. Whichever path your career has taken so far, you will also:

  • have a proven track record of improvement
  • be an inspirational and credible communicator, confident in making judgements and passionate about improving outcomes
  • understand good practice, complemented by the ability to analyse evidence and present it fairly and clearly.

Above all, you will be resilient, acting with confidence, conviction and integrity in the face of challenge.

If you think you have the right experience and are excited about working with us, we welcome your application.
