The MELISSA (Mobile Educational Learning, Improving Simulation and Safety Activities) project is a Health Education England North East and North Cumbria initiative operating from Northumbria Healthcare.
The project was commissioned in 2018 with the aim to provide equitable access to training and healthcare needs throughout the North east and Cumbria utilising a fully refurbished double decker bus.

The service has supported the delivery of over 200 events during this time including Simulation-based medical training, Vaccine clinics, Careers Engagement, Clinical Skills Training, Health Check clinics and more.

As the service has progressed, so to has the exciting opportunity to expand the team with another mobile unit currently under refurbishment.

This has developed the need for a Mobile Education Unit Manager to join the team who will be required to support service needs, the Project Manager and team with day to day operations.

We are looking for a driven individual who will possess the ability to manage and maintain service expectations as set by the Faculty of Patient Safety, whilst working autonomously for long periods of time.

You will have great communication skills as the role will require meeting with stakeholders/colleagues in various roles and promote a positive working environment for colleagues and visitors.

This role is for you if you enjoy a challenge, managing a team, supporting events, are organised and have experience in supporting simulation-based education.

This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
Northumbria Healthcare manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

With the MELISSA project being a Health Education England North East and North Cumbria initiative , we also cover the whole area. We work with NHS organisations, Local Authorities, Charities, Schools and more.
  • The post holder will support the ongoing provision and sustainability of the Melissa project. This will include supporting team members, liaising with colleagues across the region to plan educational/healthcare events, meet with stakeholders, produce reports, support events where required and maintain a high quality of service.
  • This post will ensure compliance around vehicle roadworthiness and health & safety are maintained.

  • Communication and customer service is a key requirement of this role as the post will be responsible for meeting with course leads, booking events, updating the website, promoting on social media and following up an evaluation. All processes regarding this will be trained.
  • The post holder will be punctual as the mobile unit will need to arrive in a timely manner for setting up and supporting on the day.
