Job overview
We are looking for a senior grade doctor with experience in geriatric medicine to provide in-patient liaison cover within the general and colorectal surgical department at The Royal Oldham Hospital, for a fixed term contract of 1 year.
The Royal Oldham Hospital and surgical department:
The Royal Oldham Hospital (TROH) is a busy acute district general hospital containing 640 beds.
The surgical department consists of 8 consultant colorectal surgeons and 6 general surgeons who provide both elective and emergency care to the North East sector of Manchester, covering TROH as well as Fairfield, Rochdale, and North Manchester hospitals. There is also a team of 7 cancer specialist nurses who support specifically with cancer care patients.
The inpatient bed-base at TROH consists of a small surgical triage unit (F5), a surgical assessment unit (F6), a specialist colorectal surgery/general surgery ward (T5), and an elective intake ward (T6).
Main duties of the job
Main role duties:
- Inpatient assessment and care of older adults admitted acutely under the surgical team, with particular focus on those with frailty, multiple co-morbidities, and acute medical issues
- Communicating with relatives and loved ones
- Support of junior doctors on the surgical wards with acute medical issues
- Cross-cover with liaison geriatricians in the vascular and orthopaedic departments
