About the role

North Northamptonshire is currently on an exciting journey to improve its properties and infrastructure and as part of this, we are looking for a Construction Manager to join our Capital Projects team.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a suite of capital construction projects or a programme of works that range from £25k to £25M. These will involve a variety of internal/external stakeholders - funders, services, end users, clients and developers.

You will lead construction projects managing external consultant design teams and contractor / developer delivery teams. They will take responsibility for the delivery of multiple construction projects at one time across a variety of sectors, education, care, leisure, assets, communities.

This role is a remote working post, with a need for you to undertake site visits across North Northamptonshire approximately 1 or 2 days a week depending on the project/s.

What will you be doing?

Construction Project Management - delivery of projects from brief through design and delivery.

Strategy - understanding and interpreting the Authority’s vision for its strategic estate, education, care, leisure and other service needs to develop projects.

Stakeholder Management - developing effective relationships with stakeholders and partners both internal and external to the Authority.

Risk & Issue Management – developing, managing and monitoring the project risk and issues register ensuring that the risks are costed and mitigated to the lowest possible level that the Authority can accept.

Finance - responsibility and accountability for managing the client’s budget maximising value for money.

Procurement & Leadership - identifying and awarding contracts for the required Design Team & specialists needed to undertake the design work for the project and leading this team.

About you

The successful candidate will be agile and flexible enough to adapt ensuring the project has flexibility within its parameters to allow for change should the strategy, regulations or outcome require change during the delivery of the project.

You will be educated to degree level or with equivalent experience and have a relevant project management qualification or equivalent alongside knowledge and experience of managing complex projects.

Experience of the management of construction related projects of varying financial levels/management is essential alongside experience of successfully managing performance and providing feedback to design teams and principal contractors.

Local authority experience is key particularly to provide a knowledge of elements such as governance, approvals and procurement processes.
