Speech and Language Therapist

Introduction

We have a wonderful opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our fantastic team across our two homes. Nightingale House in Clapham and Hammerson House in East Finchley, providing residential, nursing, respite, dementia, and end-of-life care under one roof.

We welcome Jewish people (and their spouses) over the age of 60 from every part of the community. Between Nightingale House and Hammerson House, we are able to provide life-enhancing care to more than 300 residents.

The Role

As a Speech and Language Therapist you will be positively challenged to deliver excellent care using your skills across a whole range of areas.

What will your typical day involve?

• 
  Identification and assessment of residents presenting with speech, language, communication or swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
• Provide feedback, advice, and training to residents, staff, family members, and members of the multidisciplinary team regarding communication needs and swallowing difficulties and strategies to facilitate development.
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team both with the Nightingale Hammerson Team, but also with external stakeholders;
• Develop and evaluate service provision for residents, relatives and team members;
• Identify, produce and deliver training on communication needs and swallowing impairment to care staff
• Educate care staff to identify early signs of deterioration and prevent hospital admissions to make appropriate referrals for specialist support
• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.

You have HCPC professional registration, have a post graduate training in dysphagia and previously worked with older people, including those with dementia.

You will be able to multi-task, completing duties promptly and in a timely manner. You will also have strong communication skills to effectively link residents, relatives, colleagues, and external agencies and the ability to work with clients who have a range of speech, language and communication needs resulting from neurological conditions.

Hours

15 hours a week on a rota

Salary

Circa 40k to 45k (FTE 37.5) depending on experience
