Scope and purpose

The main purpose of this role is to develop high-quality content for MEI’s Integral platform (a Moodle website) of online mathematics resources. It will involve working with the Integral team, other content developers, teachers and academics to enhance and extend Integral’s resources to support new users. The role will involve working closely with MEI colleagues involved in several strands of MEI’s work.


About MEI

Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) is a long-established national charity, committed to improving maths education for all. We want everyone to receive an excellent maths education and to achieve well in the subject regardless of their background.

As part of our work, MEI is involved in the leadership and management of government-funded programmes to support maths education. We lead the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme and the FE Maths CPD Programme. We are also a lead partner in the government-funded National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics, which coordinates the work of the Maths Hubs Programme.

MEI is an enthusiastic and committed organisation and a great place to work. We have around 75 employees and over 100 associates, many of whom are based around the country.

Maths specialists are home based and located across England. MEI’s operations teams are based predominantly at its office in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. We work with a range of other partners to deliver our work through contracts and other relationships, including universities and Maths Hubs.

Main duties and responsibilities

Working as part of the MEI’s Integral team and with other MEI colleagues to carry out some or all of:

  • Developing and re-versioning existing mathematics content for use by university students
  • Developing classroom activities for AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • Writing questions and solutions for AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • Developing interactive content, often using GeoGebra, Desmos Classroom, or H5P, for AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
  • Creating video content to support the study of AS/A level Mathematics.
  • The person appointed to the post will need to be flexible and the exact nature of the role will take account of the experience and strengths of the successful applicant.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Mathematics teaching experience up to and including A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • Experience of creating learning and/or teaching resources in A level Mathematics
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to produce clear documents
  • Attention to detail
  • High levels of self-motivation and enthusiasm
  • The ability to meet deadlines and work without direct supervision
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • The desire and commitment to provide excellent service


Desirable

  • Knowledge of current A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics specifications
  • Experience of using Integral resources in teaching and familiarity with the style of Integral classroom resources
  • Experience with most/all pure and applied disciplines in A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
  • Experience of using GeoGebra/Desmos
  • Experience of creating video content using desktop methods (voice over/screen capture)
  • Experience of creating courses in Moodle
