What is Clinical Coding?

Clinical coders review the clinical documentation from each hospital episode and align the patients clinical care to a coded classification. This classification supports the categorisation/organisation of our patient population, defining the hospitals case mix which is used to determine our mortality performance, bill for more than £1bn in clinical income and measure progress against variety of performance and quality metrics.

MFT coders work closely with our clinical teams to continually build shared understanding and improve interpretation of the patients care to ensure our excellent patient care is accurately represented and defined.
