Are you looking to make a difference to the lives of People Experiencing Homelessness in Worcestershire? If so, we are currently looking for a passionate Volunteer and Training Coordinator to work within our Day Centre Team here at Maggs Day Centre.

Maggs Day Centre provides the basics, a lifeline to help people survive the worst of what life throws at them.

Maggs was founded in 1984 after a homeless man died after years of sleeping rough on the streets. His death prompted members of several local churches to come together and form an action group. Their work led to a day centre being created in the former St Albans church, dedicated to helping people experiencing homeless in Worcester. Since then, we have expanded opening an 2nd Day Centre in Malvern, we have an Outreach Team who work in the community, a Clothing Project where people experiencing homelessness can get clean clothes and supplies, and most recently we have set up our accommodation project to provide temporary housing with support from Tenancy Sustainment Workers, with a view to tenants having the skills and confidence to secure permanent housing.

Want to know more? Here’s what we need from you:

Main Purpose of Job

  • To Recruit, train, manage and mentor Volunteers and students. We rely on Volunteers to support our staff members in our Day Centre's and Clothing Project, to ensure we can offer our full range of services. You need to be highly resilient, approachable, and proactive to ensure we have a good supply of volunteers all year round.
  • Continuously review organizational training needs with Senior Manager Team; source appropriate training and ensure completion of mandatory training. Our staff have mandatory training to complete on a regular basis, which means you need to be organized and, on the ball, to ensure training is completed when needed. You need to build good relationships with staff to be able to source the most appropriate training in a timely manner.
  • Continuously review and develop volunteer opportunities with Senior Manager Team to support delivery of all Maggs services. You need to “think outside the box” to utilize any opportunities for attracting new volunteers. You will need to liaise with our administrator on marketing materials and social media promotions.
  • Produce annual volunteer statistics and biannual reports to the trustees. You need to feel confident producing documentation, to a standard that is easy to read for a range of stakeholders, but includes all the pertinent information needed.

What you will be doing?

  • Recruiting and selecting volunteers/ students/ apprentices and offering volunteer positions/ student placements to suitable applicants after training.
  • Inducting and training volunteers/ students/ apprentices with assistance from the colleagues at Maggs
  • Identifying the training needs of volunteers/ students/ apprentices and plan and arrange their ongoing training, monitoring, support and supervision where applicable
  • Engaging with and promoting volunteer/ student/ apprentice opportunities with other organizations
  • Liaising with the University and provide appropriate placements
  • Liaising with corporates and set up short term volunteer opportunities
  • Producing Volunteer newsletter/ Maggs matters newsletter in conjunction with the Administrator
  • Producing annual volunteer statistics and biannual reports to the trustees
  • Organising and managing the quarterly volunteer support meeting
  • Monitoring mandatory training for colleagues and ensure that it is up to date.
  • Sourcing/organizing any other relevant training to meet identified training needs.
  • With colleagues, identify and source/organize any relevant training to meet identified training needs within organization
  • Source and claim Work Development Funding
  • DBS checks for all staff
  • The scheme is relatively small and relies on staff filling in for each other. All staff are therefore expected to carry out other duties and responsibilities, as requested, providing they do not alter the general level and character of this job description.

We warmly welcome applicants from black, minority, ethnic (BME) communities, disabled people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities, as they are currently under represented within our workforce - this diversity is vital to our journey and is fundamental to our values and enriches the service we offer the people we work with.
