Job description – Part Time Animal Health & Agriculture officer Trading Standards Service

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Animal Health & Welfare & Agriculture Team within the Trading Standards Service. The role is for 14.8 hours per week working for 2 days by mutual agreement.

We are an intelligence led service and carry out a variety of business support and enforcement work dealing with animal health & welfare and agriculture matters throughout Lancashire. We do this by responding to complaints and requests for advice, working closely with APHA and other partner agencies, carrying out inspections and audits on farms, at livestock markets, abattoirs and other agriculture related and feed businesses throughout Lancashire. We also undertake transport and vehicle checks.

In this varied role you will be confronted with a range of complex challenges requiring you to use your problem-solving skills to identify practical solutions. You will provide detailed advice on the relevant legislation, conduct routine statutory inspections and sampling activity, conduct investigations and where required take enforcement action under criminal legislation.

This is a varied and interesting role in a fast paced and ever changing environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of the livestock industry as well as enforcement or investigatory experience.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential. With the relevant formal qualification or the ability to gain those qualifications, you will be ready to take on a new challenge. You will be organised and have flexibility to work occasional unsocial hours. Above all, you will be able to deal sympathetically with members of the public, and businesses, while also being confident in your ability to handle difficult and challenging situations.

The closing date is Friday the 30th June 2023

The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Further information can be found on the 'Our Recruitment Process' tab.

Please ensure you have uploaded and attached your supporting statement to evidence how you meet the criteria for the role. The panel may be unable to shortlist you for interview without this evidence.

In return Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits, which can be found on LCC Vacancies website
