The nursing associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all ages who attend dermatologydepartment and in-patient settings. The nursing associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the
nursing process.

Clinical and Patient Care
Ensure excellent standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times.
Provide compassionate, safe and effective evidence-based care and support patients attending dermatology Unit for outpatient appointments, and/or procedures
Monitor the condition and health needs of people within their care on a continual basis in partnership with MDT, families, and carers, recognising when it is necessary to refer or escalate to others for reassessment.
Develop understanding of caring for individuals with particular skin conditions for example Eczema, psoriasis, Acne etc
dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities.
Support people to improve and maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health and well-being through health education.
Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.
Be actively involved in the prevention of and protection against disease and ill health.
Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and pulse.
Undertake clinical tasks including Patch testing, photo-therapy and support in minor procedures, venepucture and ECGs
Recognise and report any situations, behaviours or errors that could result in poor care outcomes.

The Nursing associate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to help meet the changing health and care needs of patients and the public.

To deliver high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care
To work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider MDT
To uphold a duty of care and clinical governance
To maintain own and others’ knowledge of clinical excellence
To maintain the professional registration with the NMC and work within the NMC code of conduct and NMC Proficiency for nursing Associates

Assist in the delivery of complex care as prescribed by the registered nurse.

Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of individuals.

Play an active role as members of interdisciplinary teams

Actively be involved in the learning and development of other members of the team, for example those undertaking the care certificate or trainee nursing associates.

Delegate any care appropriately to other members of the team remembering they are an accountable professional responsible for ensuring any care delegated is completed.

Collaborate and communicate effectively with nurses, a range of other health and care professionals and lay carers.

Develop a working knowledge of other providers’ resources and referral systems to ensure
individual’s needs are met, within parameters of practice

Maintain and develop own clinical knowledge and competencies.
Develop skills in relation to coaching/teaching individuals/carers/other staff.
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes
