We are inviting applications to the clinical fellow posts in the Critical Care department at King's College Hospital ( the department covers both the Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital sites: shortlisted candidates are asked to express a preference at interview). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience of working in a large tertiary Critical care department under the mentorship of consultants with a range of tertiary hospital sub-specialist interests (including, but not limited to: major trauma; neurology and neurosurgery; cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery; haematology including haemoncology).

The successful applicants will be assigned to one of 7 critical care units (6 based at the Denmark Hill site in South London, with a further 1 unit based at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley), where they
will work as part of the team of 9 resident doctors. The residents are responsible for the day-to-day management of patients on the critical care unit, under the supervision of a consultant intensivist.

Each unit has at least two on-call resident doctors during the day and one overnight. The critical care units are supported by a team of senior clinical fellows (SCF) and advanced critical care practitioners (ACCP) as well as the unit's on-call consultant.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of c£1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 15,000 staff based across South East London. The Trust provides a full range of local and specialist services across its five sites. The trust-wide strategy of Strong Roots, Global Reach is our Vision to be BOLD, Brilliant people, Outstanding care, Leaders in Research, Innovation and Education, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion at the heart of everything we do. By being person-centred, digitally-enabled, and focused on sustainability, we aim to take Team King’s to another level.

We are at a pivotal point in our history and we require individuals who are ready to join a highly professional team and make a real, lasting difference to our patients and our people.

King’s is committed to delivering Sustainable Healthcare for All via our Green Plan. In line with national Greener NHS ambitions, we have set net zero carbon targets of 2040 for our NHS Carbon Footprint and 2045 for our NHS Carbon Footprint Plus. Everyone’s contribution is required in order to meet the goals set out in our Green Plan and we encourage all staff to work responsibly, minimising their contributions to the Trust’s carbon emissions, waste and pollution wherever possible.

This post is designed to provide experience in Critical Care to doctors who are familiar with the NHS and are considering pursuing a career in Intensive Care Medicine. The residents will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients on the critical care unit, under the supervision of a consultant intensivist.
