Dog Grooming Assistant

Working as an important part of the team, the Grooming Assistant will be involved in a huge part of the day to day running of the salon. From greeting customers and their dogs to preparing them for the stylists, keeping the salon clean and tidy to answering online enquiries and taking payments.

The position of Dog Grooming Assistant involves a huge variety of roles and duties will include but not limited;

• preparing the salon for the day
• stock checking
• greeting customers and their dogs
• consulting with customers about the health and personality of their dog and the service that they require (all under the guidance of our experienced stylists).
• bathing, drying and brushing of a wide range of breeds and sizes of dogs
• ear cleaning
• nail trimming
• preparing them for whatever ‘groom’ their breed dictates
• supporting our stylists with nervous or not so compliant dogs during their groom as well!
• keeping all areas of the salon clean and tidy throughout and at the end of the day.
• cleaning and maintenance of the salon equipment (scissors, blades, dryers etc)
• answering the phone
• dealing with enquiries both in person, via email and social media
• booking appointments and taking payments.

Desired Qualifications

• Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 in Dog Grooming
• GCSEs or equivalent in maths and English are desired

Future Prospects

• Dog Grooming Stylist. Other apprentices have gone on to work in other salons, taken further qualifications and then set up their own dog grooming business.

Training

• Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
• The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Dog Grooming Apprenticeship Standard.
• The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
• The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

Things to consider

• KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise.
• The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
• Dog Grooming is a physical job where a groomer would be standing all day and will spend much time leaning over the dog bath and often getting wet!. The drying of large and long haired breeds can be lengthy and labour intensive and the lifting of dogs is an essential part of the role. Candidates should be aware of the inevitable hygiene issues when working with dogs and their hair!

Salary: From £5.50 per hour
