Job Title: Development Editor

Business Unit: Development Team

Position reports to: Executive Producer

Key Responsibilities: To editorially support projects across TV & film that are in development and in production. To identify and develop new ideas, projects and talent relationships. To facilitate the smooth running of the Development department.

Editorial

• Attending and contributing to script meetings with writers.
• Generating notes to support on House projects.
• Bringing in ideas and developing those projects with the team.
• Understanding and pursuing commissioner preferences and working relationships.
• Suggesting writers and directors for new and existing House projects.
• Reading submissions alongside the team and discussing promising material.
• Internal book and podcast coverage.
• With our in-house Researcher, sometimes carrying out research in support of existing projects and new ideas.
• Regularly attending the theatre and screenings and sharing thoughts with the team.

Departmental

• Keeping the television and film slates up to date, as well as tracking new projects and ideas across the development team.
• Attending and contributing to all Development Meetings. Creating agendas for team meetings as well as meetings with CEOs and circulating in advance, along with accompanying material. Following up with notes from Development Meetings with action points. Overseeing the execution of these in support of the team.
• Creating the Quarterly Broadcaster Overview documents - ahead of the Quarterly Meetings.
• Creating monthly greenlight bulletins, film festival round-ups, comedy bulletins.
• Requesting material from agents in order to target specific talent you’re excited by. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with agents.
• Managing external Readers to ensure they are fully briefed about editorial requests and timeframes.

Key Requirements

• To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for drama, television, film, theatre and podcasts.
• You will need to have a strong knowledge and experience in film and television output and development.
• You must have excellent editorial judgement and a track record of identifying great new ideas and new talent.
• You will have experience in Script Editing – working with writers, providing notes and editorially supporting ideas in development and/or production.
• You will have the ability to interpret editorial intentions and be able to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems.
• You must have experience in script reading and writing script reports with an ability to demonstrate sound editorial judgement and sensitivity, both verbally and on paper.
• You will have knowledge of established and emerging writers and directors.
• You will have knowledge of key agents.
• You will also have excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills.
