Job description

This is a great opportunity to join the Learning and Development team, who provide an expert learning and development service within Border Force and for around 15,000 staff throughout the Home Office.

Border Force Learning and Development Team

We are an expert team with great business knowledge and networks to enable true partnership working with our capability partners and subject matter experts. Our focus is on enabling leaders and managers to improve the experience for colleagues, building the capabilities required to create resilient competent and confident Border Force Officers of the future. We will do this through being values driven, insight led, outcome focussed, agile and expert.

We are responsible for delivering operational learning to frontline Home Office staff, equipping them with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to work in a law enforcement environment. Those joining the Training Team at one of our regional hubs will deliver a majority of training at that hub, however, some occasional travel to other areas may be required on a business needs basis.

Person specification

As a Border Force Trainer you will work to a Training Delivery Manager and be required to:

  • Plan prepare and deliver operational learning programmes in line with legislation, policy, procedures and assurance compliance using a range of delivery techniques.
  • Travel to different sites across the UK to meet business priorities.
  • Assess and evaluate delegate performance, providing regular, accurate and unbiased feedback verbally and in writing to support individual’s learning and continued development.
  • Provide coaching and support to delegates/peers to ensure they reach the required standard of competence.
  • Providing support and development to the Operational Training Officer (OTO) network of operational colleagues who help consolidate learning through real time mentoring in operational environments.
  • Collaborate with the wider Learning and Development team on service improvements and consistency in delivery.
  • Responding quickly and professionally to changing business priorities.
  • Develop trainer skills through continuous professional development (CPD), including maintaining business knowledge and providing support at the Borders.

Benefits

  • Learning and development tailored to your role
  • An environment with flexible working options
  • A culture encouraging inclusion and diversity
