Are you an experienced and competent Administrator looking for your first step into a career in HR? Or an established HR Administrator or HR Assistant looking to build on or broaden your experience?

We are a friendly, small, flexible and busy generalist HR team recruiting a Human Resources Assistant to cover maternity leave.

You will act as the first point of contact for internal and external customers and partners, providing an effective and efficient HR and Learning & Development administration service. Using our policies and procedures you will promote best practice by providing staff and managers with timely, consistent and up to date guidance on anything from annual leave and pay to sickness absence management and maternity leave.

You will be responsible for the co-ordination of multiple end-to-end recruitment campaigns, issuing employment contracts and processing all of the new starter documentation including setting starters up on the payroll system. You will also support users on the self-service module of the payroll system and produce monthly management information. Therefore, a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, the ability to work to tight deadlines and work in a confidential manner are essential.

Other main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Handling and dealing with sensitive information
  • Payroll administration, working closely with the Payroll Officer and payroll provider
  • Performance appraisal and performance management administration
  • Assisting the Learning & Development Officer to organise workshops, training sessions and events
  • Assisting the HR Business Partners with absence management and employee welfare
  • Providing valuable administration support during organisational change projects

You will already have an interest in HR and a willingness and ability to develop your knowledge. You may already have a CIPD Level 3 Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP). You will need to be a competent administrator and be able demonstrate your Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook at intermediate level.

Highly organised, with the proven ability to plan and prioritise your own workload, you will also have excellent communication and customer service skills, a proactive and flexible approach and the ability to manage a varied and rapidly changing workload. Recent and relevant experience of working in a fast-paced HR environment and a working knowledge of recent HR legislation and best practice are desirable but not essential.

For an informal discussion about the role, please email recruitment@harborough.gov.ukwith your contact details and we’ll call you.

Harborough District Council’s vision is to work with communities in a vibrant, safe and prosperous district and to bring the best opportunities to all.

To apply for this role, please send an up-to-date copy of your CV to recruitment@harborough.gov.uk, along with a supporting statement that addresses the criteria set out in the person specification, using examples to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements. Please clearly indicate whether you are seeking full or part time work. Please provide your home, work, mobile and email contact details and let us know of any dates when you are not available. You should also provide the names, positions, organisations and contact details for two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer. If you do not wish us to approach your referees without your prior permission, please state this clearly.

The closing date is 9am Tuesday 2nd May 2023.

All applicants should be aware that any employee, who is at threat of redundancy at the time of a position being advertised, will have priority status.
