Job Role:

The Greyhound Trust National Greyhound Homing Centre is offering a fantastic opportunity for talented individuals to join us at our National Greyhound Centre. After over 40 years of helping greyhounds in their transition from racing and matching them to homes where they will thrive in their retirement; the Greyhound Trust has opened its first, nationally owned and run homing centre. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly developed team, to help shape the future of the Greyhound Trust and contribute towards ensuring the success of the National Greyhound Centre.

The Senior Greyhound Homer role has some core responsibilities and then the additional responsibility of coordinating our large team of supporting volunteers.

Senior Greyhound Homer Core Responsibilities:

Ø To proactively be involved in all homing activities, with focus on ensuring greyhounds are assessed, transitioned, matched and homed promptly and in line with Greyhound Trust policy and procedures

Ø To ensure all greyhounds are cared for to an exceptionally high standard and that their welfare is always everyone’s top priority; always ensuring they are provided with clean accommodation, regularly health checked, socialised, and exercised in accordance to Greyhound Trust guidelines

Ø To provide support, advice, and guidance to any volunteers at the National Greyhound Centre and to support the team’s training and development

Ø To ensure continuous operational improvement and maximise all resources within the centre

Ø To have oversight of stock levels of items held by the National Greyhound Centre, such as feed, medication, and equipment and to inform the Centre Manager when orders are required

Ø To act as point of contact in the absence of the Centre Manager

Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities:

Ø To source, recruit and induct new volunteers to support the National Greyhound Centre and aid the further development of it’s resources and services offered

Ø To support, train and develop the skills, knowledge, and experience of each volunteer

Ø To coordinate a weekly and monthly rota that ensures sufficient support in all areas of Greyhound Welfare; as well as at events, fundraising and customer service.

Skills and experience we need from you:

  • Experience working in a customer service/ engagement environment
  • Experience (paid or voluntary) in an animal welfare organisation and/or homing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to change communication style, depending on the needs of the audience
  • A valid, manual driving licence
  • Experience leading, guiding, and supporting others
  • A love for people, as well as animals
  • Experience designing, writing and/or delivering training sessions or workshops both in a 121 environment and with a large group of people
  • Excellent computer and administrative skills

Desirable qualifications:

· A recognised canine behaviour qualification

· A recognised customer service qualification

Desirable experience:

· Experience of working in a challenging environment, successfully managing multiple tasks at once and resolving customer concerns

· Experience working alongside or leading a large group of volunteers across multiple roles

· Understanding of canine behaviour theory and current practice

· Experience of fundraising and/or organising events

Standard hours for all full-time posts are 40 hours per week on a locally determined rota, which will include weekend and bank holiday working. Due to the nature of the work of the Greyhound Trust and this post, it will be necessary to exceed these hours when the workload demands.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Up to £21,000.00 per year

  • Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • London / Gatwick Airport, RH6 9SX: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
