Medical Electronics Technician

This is an exciting time to join and adapting and expanding Eme/Clinical Engineering Department. You will be joining a small friendly Electro-Medical Engineering department based at WPH supporting the trust’s fleet of medical devices. With the whole cross site architecture and resources being adapted and developed to become a centre of excellence you will be looking to join this positive and exciting tie of change and adaption.

The successful candidate will probably have a minimum of: BTEC Level 3 or equivalent in Electronics or Bio Medical Engineering, plus at least three years of experience in electronics servicing and maintenance. Experience of working on medical equipment is essential to a complex level and this must be demonstrated in application and at interview. However in line with the trust values as we face the future training and development will be given to enhance any previous skills and will be given.

Please note that the post holder will also need good customer care skills and an extensive presentable cross electronics and medical device knowledge.

The post is for Wexham Park Hospital Eme Department and you are expected to cover Heatherwood Hospital but you may be required to work at Frimley Park Hospital.

One of four staff providing clinical engineering services during normal working hours and out of hours.

You must be well versed in this specialist subject to contribute to the provision of Eme / clinical engineering services to the trust in the role of Corrective and Preventative Maintenance. Plus supporting development and changes and challenges towards the medical device digital pathways.

Your main responsibilities will include the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and repair of medical equipment/devices within the Trust.

You will be expected to be part of the local On Call out of hours support criteria and you must be able to drive.

• Identify faults, carry out repairs and planned maintenance to sophisticated electro medical equipment essential to patient care, including bench repairs, performance verification and calibration as necessary.
• To carry out regular safety assessment and testing of equipment.
• Responsible for the ordering of spare parts and assists in the maintenance of stock levels.
• Assisting in obtaining best value for the hospital by sourcing spares and accessories from the most competitive suppliers.
• Responsible for maintaining good lines of communication with clinicians, providing advice where necessary on the effective operation of

equipment.

• Responding to problems in clinical areas, including theatres (during operations if necessary) and A and E /Resuscitation room (during

emergencies if necessary), possibly involving distressed patients.

• Contribute to changes and developments in E.M.E policy and procedures as strategically directed by manager.
• Responsible for the minute to minute prioritisation of emergency calls according to broad department protocols and the personal

organisation of assigned tasks around said emergencies.

• Will be required to exert moderate effort in lifting and moving heavy inanimate loads.
• Carry out all the work in a safe effective manner in accordance with the health and safety at work act, Trust and departmental safety

policies and procedures.

• Will have an obligation to undertake training courses both residential and non residential, to learn new techniques and understand new

or upgraded guidance and regulations.

• To frequently deal with contaminated equipment, both chemically and biologically.
• Keep and update records with regard to equipment failures and repairs.
• To liaise with departmental managers with regard to equipment failures and repairs.
• To be actively involved in the training and development of trainees.
• Be available to work outside of normal working hours, willing to respond to possible emergencies at night, or weekends/ public holidays.
• Participate in the Trust appraisal system.
• To ensure an effective and responsive approach to customer care
