We are seeking an experienced Cloud Systems Engineer to perform daily administration and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, build out environments and configure and deploy additional servers as needed. The environment consists of AWS and SaaS environments within multiple data centers. Because our engineers work in multiple environments, both Microsoft Windows Server and AWS experience is necessary. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work independently, prioritizes existing projects, and proactively determine areas requiring additional attention, monitoring, or maintenance. This person will have the confidence and expertise to define problems, collect data, and formulate solutions both independently and working as a team. They are considered the “go to person” in their organization.

The chosen candidate for this role will work for FM:Systems Europe Ltd. We have a physical office in Blackburn, UK but are also opened to hiring an experienced remote worker for this role in other parts of the United Kingdom.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Architect and deploy new infrastructure in our private/public cloud.
  • Provide 3rd level support on cloud systems platforms.
  • Analyze data, establish trends, validate baselines, and identify outliers.
  • Deploy SaaS applications meeting security and configuration standards.
  • Manage deployments and configuration changes across staging, test, and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, test, and production environments.
  • Develop automated approaches to streamline operations and processes.
  • Create scripts to provide secure and seamless dataflow within our infrastructure.
  • Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Provide 24x7x365 rotational technical support when required.
  • Handle escalations related to upgrades or new client provisions.
  • Respond and mitigate server performance alerts as needed.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.

The successful candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:


  • Windows Server experience (including Active Directory, IIS, file servers, and SFTP)
  • 5 years' experience in working with AWS cloud and large virtualized and distributed enterprise environments (EC2, load balancing, VPC management, security groups, S3 management, Route53).
  • Experience troubleshooting and understanding how to set up a geographically redundant service in the cloud.
  • Experience with Cloud Formation, Terraform, Octopus and a scripting language (PowerShell preferred).
  • Track record of working with client-facing critical systems.
  • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products.
