Customs Assistant and Administrator

Job description

We have a requirement for a Customs Assistant and Administrator within our in-house Customs Department - this is a permanent, full time role.

You should have a self-motivated and can do attitude, be able to use your initiative, solve problems and have excellent communication skills. You should have a very keen eye for detail and a strong administration ability.

The role will best suit someone with:

• A high level of accuracy when entering written and numerical data
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written. You will be communicating with HMRC, customs officers, suppliers and end customers
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize workloads.
• Strong customer service skills
• The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, and to solve problems when they arise
• Competent decision making
• A flexible approach - a willingness to work within a successful team committed to ensuring deadlines are met and work standards are high

Previous experience within the road haulage industry is beneficial but not essential. Previous customs experience is beneficial but not essential as training will be given in house when employment commences.

Duties and Responsibilities;

• Preparation of accurate customs entries to ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are met
• Entering data onto bespoke industry software
• Liaising with importers/exporters and other agents to obtain mandatory information for import and export entries
• Preparation of trade documentation and forms as required
• Dealing with all queries quickly and efficiently
• Communicating with customers and suppliers at all levels
• Problem solving and offering advice to customers, when needed
• Record keeping
