Main Purpose of the Job

dBs Institute delivers courses that are at the forefront of modern audio applications, ensuring excellent teaching and tutorial guidance, examining, curriculum development, administration and course/centre related activities. The HE Module leader’s main objective is to inspire students to proactively engage in their own learning and to develop as both audio practitioners and employable professionals, sharing timely and relevant feedback with them regarding their progress. Lecturers at the Bristol faculty provide a relevant link for students between knowledge and current industry practice, fostering a culture of questioning, reflection and evaluation. The HE Module Leader will provide students with an opportunity to explore and develop all of the skills involved in the modern audio industry. Students will be given a significant insight into a wide variety of methods, techniques and tools and encouraged to incorporate them into their own practice alongside modifying and developing their own methodologies.


Person Specification Essential

Relevant experience or expertise in the following:

  • Considerable experience in the Live Sound industry. 3 years +
  • Practical understanding of digital consoles, plugin integration and advanced mixing techniques
  • Advanced understanding of audio networking protocols, in particular, Dante, Madi & AES
  • Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP networking
  • Knowledge of immersive audio system design and operation
  • Experience with wireless RF coordination
  • Ability to create and build on industry links
  • An industry-related degree (preferably 2.1 or above)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, punctual and highly organised
  • Pride in the delivery of work to high standards and to set and meet challenging goals
  • Adaptable and versatile
  • Enthusiastic and energetic with a track record of high achievement
  • Supportive team player


Unusual Arrangements

The hours of employment are determined by course delivery requirements and your specialisms and may vary accordingly. However, a standard full-time post is 37.5 hours per week. The associated teaching hours for this role are 560, however this may vary depending on the needs of the business.


The following additional tasks can be expected as part of the role:

  • Attending the annual Awards Panel meetings in June
  • Setting alternative assessment briefs for summer resits.
  • Grading of resit assessment work for summer Panel and Board (usually submitted in late August, for early September meeting).
  • Second marking where requirements exceed the norm (i.e. large dissertation essays or other large written works).
