This new post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team comprising of 10 WTE Consultants and 2 acting up Consultants at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. The post holder will be supported by a Senior and Junior Clinical Fellow and a Trauma Nurse Practitioner to deliver emergency trauma and complex elective surgery to the population of Cwm Taf Morgannwg. The post holder will be based at the Princess of Wales Hospital but will be expected to travel across other sites.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg are currently undergoing a service reconfiguration that is anticipated to impact on both elective and emergency surgery, this is likely to result in the successful candidate practicing on different health board sites.

The post holder will be skilled in arthroplasty surgery with extensive training and knowledge in both orthopaedic and trauma surgery. Knowledge and experience of revision arthroplasty surgery is essential for this role.

The post holder will be expected to be part of the general trauma on-call rota and will be expected to undertake all aspects of general trauma.

Excellent communication skills are required to support a multidisciplinary team approach to services. Applicants must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) Registration.

  • The post holder, in liaison with consultant colleagues, will have responsibility for the functioning of the department in line with the operational policy of the Health Board.
  • You will be named in the contracts of junior medical staff as the person expected to act as educational supervisor or clinical supervisor for those assigned to you, thus over seeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers.
  • You will be responsible for supporting and the trauma and orthopaedic service for both elective and trauma patients.
  • Participate in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant on-call rota
  • Undertake all aspects of general Traum

Cwm Taf Morgannwg was formally established on 1stApril 2019.

In total, CTM UHB employs over 7,600 staff across three District General Hospital sites – Prince Charles Hospital which opened in 1978, the Princess of Wales Hospital opened in 1985 and Royal Glamorgan Hospital, which opened in 1999, and six smaller community hospitals.

The newly formed Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board stretches from the Southern Brecon Beacons in the North to the Welsh Jurassic Coast at Southerndown and Ogmore by Sea in the South.   • You will be responsible for supporting and the trauma and orthopaedic service for both elective and trauma patients.
  • You will be required to maintain a licence to practice through revalidation, to undergo satisfactory annual appraisal using the all Wales online Medical Appraisal Scheme (“MARS”) and to formulate a Personal Development Plan, in conjunction with the Clinical lead, to identify training and development needs. You will be expected to participate in sufficient personal and professional development to fulfill Royal College and GMC requirements. You will also be required to undergo a job plan review at least annually and to agree and then meet service outcomes.
  • You will be required to participate in the on call Trauma and Orthopaedic rota with prospective cover, managing the care of all admissions during your on-call period.
  • You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice laid down in the guidance of ‘Good Medical Practice’ issued by the General Medical Council.
  • You will be required to participate in the Health Board’s risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the locality and the Health Board. Adherence to Caldicott Principles is mandatory. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with NHS priorities.
  • You will be required to participate in the Health Board’s Appraisal Scheme and to formulate a Personal Development Plan, in conjunction with the Clinical Director, to identify training and development needs. You will be expected to participate in personal and professional development to fulfil Royal College CME requirements.
  • The post holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the locality planning process through active participation in the locality structure.
  • Travelling as necessary between community sites, hospitals and clinics may be required to undertake such duties.
