In 2012 The Centre for Mental Health and Justice and took on the contract to deliver Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) services in the Community, co-commissioned by the Prison and Probation Services with NHS England. In 2019 further service developments were commissioned and we now provide the Intensive Integrated Risk Management Service (IIRMS) to complement the OPD pathway. The OPD service seeks to support Probation Practitioners working within the Probation Service to work effectively with Personality Disordered Offenders. This is achieved through a thorough screening, consultation and formulation process. Furthermore, there are joint casework and workforce development strands. The IIRMS service aims to offer an additional layer of psychologically informed support and skills development to offenders who may struggle with the transition from custody to the community. The Assistant Psychologist post in both the OPD and IIRMS services is critical in supporting the development of formulations of offenders, delivering training and psychoeducational interventions.

The post will be based within the Centre for Mental Health and Justice at Bodmin Police Hub working full time 37.5 hours per week. Job share will be considered.

The ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the post is essential as you may undertake work across Cornwall and Plymouth. Pool cars are provided.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust’s Centre for Mental Health and Justice. This B5 Assistant Psychologist post involves delivering and supporting services to the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway and the Intensive Integrated Risk Management Service (IIRMS). The post is held within the Centre for Mental Health and Justice which delivers four strands of clinical activity including the Homelessness Vulnerability Liaison Service, the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service, the Community Forensic Team and the OPD/IIRMS Services.
  • To contribute to the provision of a Forensic Clinical Psychology service within the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway under the supervision of a Forensic Clinical Psychologist.
  • To offer support to Probation Service staff to develop their psychological understanding of offenders screened into the OPD pathway. To assist in screenings, consultations and psychological formulations alongside a qualified professional Forensic Clinical Psychologist within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. To deliver the Minack Programme (Emotional Coping Skills intervention). To contribute to workforce development activities.
  • To contribute to the effectiveness of OPD service delivery. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
