York Learning is the City of York Council’s Learning and Skills Service, which is rated by Ofsted as a ‘good’ provider of Further Education and Training.

We are looking for people like you to be an Adult Learning Tutor in a sessional claiming role : -

  • Are you skilled in your subject knowledge and passionate about teaching?
  • Are you looking for a flexible schedule that suits you?
  • Would you like to make a difference to the lives of people in York?

York Learning’s Family Learning team is looking for enthusiastic and creative adult education tutors with knowledge of early years and/or the primary curriculum. You will join us in exciting projects to develop parents and carers’ confidence and skills in supporting children’s speech and language development using a wide variety of activities and strategies that can be used both in and out of the home. Our adult learners are encouraged to share and adapt ideas to suit individual children’s needs.

We also work to identify and develop adults’ own skills gaps particularly in English and maths, and some knowledge of adult skills qualifications in these subjects would be an advantage in order to support adult learner progression routes towards their own qualifications and career aspirations.

You will initially work up to two days a week, linked to one or two primary schools or early years settings. Your aim will be to engage with parents and set up workshops and short courses relevant to their needs and agreed priorities of the school. Flexible availability to include some start and end of school day activities and the occasional weekend or evening work will be necessary to carry out this post successfully. The reward of seeing both adult and child achieve is something very special, and we’re looking for special people to make it happen!
