Chesterfield - permanent, full time and agile working

Chesterfield has significant ambitions in line with the Governments growth agenda with an adopted Local Plan placing sustainable development and jobs at its heart and aims to deliver regeneration projects, new housing and vibrant centres whilst safeguarding the unique character of the historic urban and rural areas of the district.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Urban Design Officer to promote the enhancement of the built environment in Chesterfield borough and provide advice and guidance on urban design matters to assist in the provision of an effective planning policy and development management service.

You would be providing design and policy advice in relation to development schemes at pre application through to post application stages and critically assessing design issues as an expert specialist. You would also be required to prepare strategies, planning and development briefs and supplementary planning guidance for the borough.

The ideal candidate should have a degree or diploma in urban design, or equivalent, a valid driving licence and have a track record of working on urban design issues. Knowledge of the Town and Country Planning Acts and related legislation and guidance specifically in relation to the built environment is essential as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills.

The Council is an excellent employer with rewarding conditions of service which include generous leave entitlement and sick pay, flexible and agile working, progressive HR policies, access to the local government pension scheme, discounted leisure membership and car parking.

For an informal discussion on any aspect of the post please contact Paul Staniforth, Development Management & Conservation Manager on 01246 959669, or for further information please view the job description and person specification attached.
