About The Service


The Disabled Facilities Service provides over 3000 adaptation each year to disabled, elderly and vulnerable residents in Cardiff.
Adaptations are provided via a combination of grants and loans.
The Service also provides domestic property improvement loans and grants throughout the City.


About the job


The Disabled Facilities Service is looking to appoint a construction professional as a team member who is enthusiastic and self-motivated to assist in the provision of adaptations in domestic properties.

  • Work may also include;
    • Repair and replacement of adaptations & specialist equipment that have been installed for disabled people.
    • Undertaking non-complex, low level assessments of individuals and/or their carers in their home environment.
    • Repair/renovation works and general construction schemes.

What We Are Looking For From You


The work demands that you develop and maintain an ongoing awareness of related housing legislation, Social Services legislation & working policies.

The successful applicant will carry out property surveys, complete working drawings, prepare schedules of work and manage construction projects from inception to completion; they will also be required to liaise with occupational therapists, contractors, specialist installers, Regulatory bodies and other stakeholders in order to provide a high quality service to our clients.

You should have relevant experience in the surveying, construction, repair/maintenance of domestic properties. As a team member you will advise service users, take responsibility for your own workload and understand the importance of team-work. You will be required to monitor the performance of building contractors.

This post is temporary until 28th March 2025.

The ideal candidate will have (or is studying for) a recognised qualification in construction (min ONC) along with a formal qualification in completing low-level functional assessments for adults with permanent and substantial disabilities and their carers in their own homes (min. level 2 Trusted Assessor) OR be able to demonstrate extensive experience in both these disciplines.

You will also be able to demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity and flexibility. As a good communicator, you should be capable of resolving difficult problems or issues and be able to adapt easily to change.
