Job description

Fixed term contract until 31 August 2025
2x positions available

Background of department/role

Since the University’s foundation, in 1962, chaplaincy has played a central role in the daily life of staff and students providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care for all. We now seek to appoint two Lay Chaplains to assist with and develop this unique ministry. These positions will also include shared administrative responsibility for service materials, publicity and finance.

You will be a recent graduate desiring to explore a vocation to Christian ministry. As a highly motivated, enthusiastic person you will complement the Chaplaincy Team through being able to work collaboratively, non-judgementally and confidently alongside staff and students of all faiths and none. Experience as a worship leader is desirable.

Additional Information

Please note, it is an occupational requirement that the successful applicant is an active member of a Christian Church (that is part of Churches Together in Britain and N Ireland).

Canterbury Christ Church University is committed to equality of opportunity, supporting and encouraging underrepresented groups as well as valuing diversity. We promote wider inclusion through our polices such as the Race Equality Charter, StoneWall for LGBT+ groups and the Disability Covenant, guaranteeing an interview to all disabled candidates which meet the essential criteria for our roles.
We aim to create an inclusive working culture in which all employees feel valued. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, which are currently underrepresented throughout Canterbury Christchurch. We are committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities. We also welcome applications from LGB, Trans and Non-binary candidates. All applications decisions and progression opportunities through the University will be determined by personal merit only.
