The role
A fun, hands-on, broad reaching and critical role supporting and deputising for the External Relations Director in the UK, within a fast-paced, energetic external relations team.
You’ll play a key part in protecting and promoting Bupa’s reputation through both creative campaigns and issues management across our UK and global business lines.
You’ll have strong experience of the UK media landscape and feel confident dealing directly with national media to proactively maintain Bupa’s reputation as the leading provider of healthcare, a thought leader, driver of innovation and an employer of choice.
With regular exposure to Bupa’s leadership teams in the UK, you’ll be comfortable working with senior leaders to confidently represent our external relations expertise.
What you’ll do
  • Support and deputise for the Director of External Relations when required, acting as their second in charge and leading on key projects and internal stakeholder meetings
  • Lead on interpreting media narrative and tone, understanding the key topics for Bupa to take a leadership position in the external environment to enhance our reputation in the UK as a market leader, driver of innovation and employer of choice
  • Use a strong reputation risk lens and horizon-scanning expertise for emerging potential issues or crises both in the business and externally
  • Build strong relationships with key media on behalf of Bupa to strengthen understanding of our business, generate goodwill and minimise negative impact.
  • Confidently handle media enquiries and sensitive media issues from national, regional and specialist media, advising the business of the risks and potential outcomes, aligning on response, and recommending courses of mitigating action
  • Lead on CEO profiling programme, identifying opportunities and managing briefings to strongly position Bupa with key journalists and within national press
  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of high impact corporate and consumer PR campaigns to support our Market Unit strategy and key business line initiatives, on time and within budget
  • Demonstrate an integrated campaign mindset, effectively distributing campaigns across channels including owned, paid and digital channels to drive the greatest reach and return on investment.
  • Work independently and manage agency support.
  • Produce and align high quality written materials, including statements, Q&As, briefings, press releases
  • Inform senior stakeholders on the media environment and the impact of business decisions
  • Make sure senior leaders are media trained to the appropriate standard and fully briefed prior to any media interview and liaise externally with stakeholders, customers and relevant industry bodies and groups
You
  • Significant experience managing complex issues for major brands with strong evidence of successfully handling national, regional and specialist media enquiries across both agency and inhouse roles
  • Confident handling challenging media enquiries and liaising directly with journalists
  • Media contacts across national outlets
  • Credible, engaging stakeholder management
  • Ability to assume full responsibility for key projects and excellent organisational ability
  • Brilliant writing skills, able to translate content for use across multiple channels.
  • Solution-focused and analytical, able to produce excellent quality work to tight deadlines in a pressurised environment.
  • Highly creative and energetic with a flexible approach
  • An effective and reliable team player who commands respect and confidence from colleagues and stakeholders.
