Apprentice - Surfacing Operative

If so, perhaps working as a surfacing operative is your career call. Earn as you learn, combining study for a Level 2 road surfacing apprenticeship in England or an SVQ in highways maintenance and road building in Scotland, with industry experience at the largest independent construction materials group in the UK.

As an Apprentice surfacing operative, you’ll support the vital need to be involved in the surfacing, resurfacing and improvement of vast stretches of roads and the highway network. You will help with the removal of old roads and surfaces, preparing for the new surface, complete inspections, and testing of the new surfaces. You will learn how to operate a wide range of specialist plant machinery such as rollers and spreaders.

If you’re one to tiptoe around puddles with trepidation, maybe this role isn’t for you. You won’t be spending every day in a clean, corporate office swivelling on an office chair! If you have a natural affinity with the great outdoors, in all weathers, then now we’re talking!
