A new opportunity has arisen to support the clinical leadership and training of the Children’s Complex Care team in Birmingham and to ensure the highest level of nursing care is delivered to some of our most vulnerable children.
If you have a passion for working with children with long term conditions within the community and have experience of teaching and assessing in clinical practice and are ready for your next challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
The successful applicant will need to be able to deliver evidenced based clinical training and support to a large team of Health Care Assistants within a Competency Based Framework.
There will be an expectation to undertake training and competency testing of Health Care Assistants, to organise and participate in clinical skills days, to oversee staff mandatory training, to undertake audit, to work with other educational teams across Children & Families division

The team works as part of a multi-disciplinary system supporting children and families to live as independently as possible away from hospital.
1. Working within the NMC code of professional conduct: standards for conduct, performance and ethics, exercising professional accountability at all times.
2. Reporting back to the Clinical Educator any identified concerns.
3. Delegation of work to admin support team member and ensuring delegated work is completed to a satisfactory standard.
4. Managing own time and prioritising own workload.
5. To organise and deliver specialist training, within Children’s Complex Care settings to a range of staff. This will include theoretical training and practical demonstration around clinical needs and invasive procedures and the use of emergency medication where appropriate.
6. Develop and review guidance, newsletters and training packages for Health staff.
7. Advise and support Children’s Complex Care staff in developing and regularly reviewing policies and procedures.
8. Liaise and communicate with Children’s Complex Care staff, parents and carer’s to encourage uptake of training and promote appropriate and safe care of children with medical conditions.
9. Regularly review training in conjunction with Children’s Complex Care staff to ensure effectiveness and appropriateness for the needs of individual child/environment.
10. Assist the Children’s Complex Care Clinical Educator in the development of policies and procedures.
11. Advise Complex Care staff in the development of individual risk assessments for children with a complex care package.
12. Advise Complex Care staff in the development of individual care plans for children with a complex care package
13. Offer on-going specialist support and advice to Children’s Complex Care staff and health colleagues. This can include analysis and response to complex situations about individual children’s care and their safe management.
14. Maintain accurate training data.
15. Undertake audit of policies and procedures in Children’s Complex Care settings, which support safe care of children with complex medical needs.
16. To liaise and work closely with Consultants and Specialist Nurses relevant to the service.
17. Ensure training is tailored to meet the needs of specific children and environments recognising the need to be flexible and have the ability to adapt training plans, often at short notice.
18. To participate in the Trust’s clinical effectiveness and audit programmes and to take part in research as appropriate.
19. To keep updated with current trends and advances within the Children’s Complex Care.
20. To undertake individual training appropriate to the grade and as identified at appraisal.
21. The post holder must be proficient with Microsoft office.
22. To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
