The Company and the Role:

Wessex Cancer Trust is a medium-sized charity which offers support to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. The charity operates in Hampshire, IOW and Dorset.

Voluntary donations from fundraising and income from 5 charity shops help fund services which are delivered in 4 cancer support centres, in hospitals and the community throughout the region.

The Trust relies on voluntary income to fund its work, raising money through fundraising activities and via a trading subsidiary of charity shops.

They are now seeking a Head of Philanthropy and Major Partnerships / Deputy Director of

six-figure value donations and partnerships.

The charity has a solid portfolio of warm trust donors and your brief will be to oversee that work, whilst developing corporate and major donor fundraising strategies, identifying new prospects and building compelling funding appeals and winning pitches. You’ll have lots of autonomy while working closely with the Director of Fundraising and Marketing as their deputy. You will also work with the Director of Services to identify and maximise any statutory funding opportunities.

The role is full – time ( 37.5 hours per week) The place of work is flexible and can be a hybrid of working at home (usually around 40% of working time) and approximately 60% of the postholder’s time will be spent working and attending meetings in the charity’s Head Office in Chandlers Ford.

Key Features of the Role:

· Work with colleagues to build a comprehensive pipeline of prospects across these fundraising areas, with a well organised schedule to ensure all opportunities are maximised.

· Manage the income and expenditure budgets for corporate, trusts, major donors and statutory funding, reporting on variances to budget and identifying mitigations as needed.

· Manage and deliver research to identify prospects and develop appropriate funding propositions that align their interests with the charity’s fundraising priorities.

· Manage approaches to prospective donors / partners; delegating some prospects to colleagues and personally leading on your own portfolio.

· Utilise the Trustee Board and other warm contacts to gain introductions to prospective donors.

· Raise the charity’s profile as a good partner for charity of the year relationships, developing compelling applications and strong pitches.

· Develop, oversee and implement a stewardship plan for all donors which enhances the relationship, building retention and achieving uplifts in donations.

· Line manage and motivate the current team, providing leadership and expertise to oversee their professional development; to recommend and implement team expansion as the income and workload grows.

· Maintain an involvement in the wider work of the department, supporting and motivating the wider team and deputising for the Director of Fundraising and Marketing when needed.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

· Solid track record as a manager in corporate, and/or major donor fundraising, with proven success leading on winning and managing significant numbers of donations / partnerships worth five and six figure sums, OR

· An interest and understanding of what’s needed, with the ability to demonstrate transferable skills that have been gained from your solid track record in a commercial role e.g. sales, account management etc, winning and managing accounts worth five/six figures.

· Excellent communication skills and able to show a history of building and stewarding strong relationships which grow and develop over time.

· Superb negotiation and influencing skills.
